Deep Breathing

Deep breathing , the opposite of shallow breathing, is a simple but effective method of relaxation.

The key to deep breathing is to draw air deeply from the abdomen, so that you get as much air as possible into the lungs. In deep breathing, the diaphragm, belly, lower ribcage, and lower back are involved too.

When we take a deep breath, the diaphragm moves further down into the abdomen, and the lungs are able to expand more into the chest cavity. This means that more oxygen  is taken in. The more oxygen you inhale, the more relaxed you feel. This slower, deeper breathing, combined with the rhythmic movement of the diaphragm and abdomen, brings the body closer to the relaxation response.
